Be Graceful

Ellie and Mac Be Graceful

I had a system going where I wear nylons with shorter dresses M-Th and then on Friday I reward myself with sandals and a maxi dress.

Lately I’m finding I want to reward myself a few extra times per week and am wishing I had more maxi dresses. So last weekend I went on a mission to add maxi dresses to my wardrobe. That meant trying out new patterns!

The Be Graceful is one of the quickest sews. It’s a lot like the With Love by George and Ginger except for a different neckline shape and method. They’re both dolman sleeves and use a casing for the elastic.

I was a little off my game and made some unexpected changes. First, when I was cutting the skirt, since I was able to get them side by side, I did what I always do when it comes to gathered skirts – I just cut whole width of fabric and put a seam down the middle back instead of side seams.

But this isn’t a gathered skirt LOL. It’s supposed to fit the bodice and then you make a casing. So I ended up trying to make a casing over a gathered skirt.

oh and my sewing machine is down and I’m waiting for my replacement to come. So I gathered on my serger by using elastic. So there’s elastic attaching the skirt to the bodice and then more elastic in the casing right below that. This dress isn’t going anywhere haha.

All in all, it’s an easy pattern and I recovered from those little glitches and fortunately didn’t waste this beautiful fabric! Fabric is DBP from Amelia Lane Designs. Not only is the print pretty, it’s really soft and squishy so it’s wonderful to wear.
