Frisky
Frisky Panties by Ellie and Mac
So first off, don’t our new floors look nice? Can you believe that is linoleum?
Okay, second, I’m not much for sewing underwear. In my size they aren’t as much of a scrap buster as I would like and I wear such cheap Walmart underwear that it’s not worth it.
But. These are really cute. They honestly do look/fit better than store bought. When I buy high rise from the store they’re just way too big. But I love the vintage look of true mid-rise.
So I just whipped these up with some cotton lycra I had a piece left of from Elevated Fashion Fabrics but I think I will be making some for real next time, because they’re super flattering. The cotton lycra breathes but is also more compressive ( a good thing) than store bought. After making these, it surprised me a lot to look at my store bought ones and see they’re just elastic on some not-stretchy thin, tee shirt fabric. I might be rethinking how economical I think they are because the quality just isn’t there.
For these, I just used some plain white elastic since it’s hidden during the turn and topstitch.
I was able to assemble on my serger and then top stitch with my cover stitch, so the whole process (including assembling the pattern) took under an hour. I have washed them a bunch and found they’re really holding up too.
As you might expect, they were pretty quick to whip up. During testing I made some with picot elastic and it did take a little longer, but they looked really fancy.
This is the top edge, zoomed in. Picot is also called underwear elastic sometimes.
Here’s the image for context. This was during testing so the final rise of the pattern has changed since then. Just showing the picot elastic trim. This cotton lycra is leftover from my Everywhere Dress in tunic length (blog).
