Boho Babydoll
Boho Babydoll by Patterns for Pirates
Edit to add:
I lost not only my dress but my pattern pieces somehow, so a couple years later I decided it’s time to reprint and make a new “first” boho babydoll.
I tend to avoid maxi skirts with fabric that has too much vertical stretch (like rayon spandex) because they grow throughout the day and then I’m tripping over the skirt on the way home.
So when I got this tie dye DBP from Amelia Lane Designs and noticed it has minimal vertical stretch, surprising for DBP, I was excited for how it opened up the maxi dress possibilities.
I squeezed this dress and even the ruffle sleeves out of a 3 yard cut! I had to do the skirt a little differently. Rather than two even pieces, I multipled to figure out the entire width of the skirt combined, cut one piece width of fabric (a little bigger than one skirt) and then the remaining needed width. So there’s two seams in the back rather than on the sides but the gathering hides it.

I made this dress not to long after the pattern came out and I’ve since lost it. I don’t know how that happens, but it’s just poof, gone!
At least I found some photos to prove to myself it really did exist at some point!
I lengthened the short sleeves a bit. I learned a lesson about why gathering on my serger is not the best method (broken needle and uneven gathers – turning up my tension on my regular sewing machine is my preferred way now. I blogged about it during the lively dress).
This fabric is from Elevated Fashion Fabrics.
