Ginger Dress
Happy Birthday/Anniversary to George and Ginger Patterns! This amazing fashion-forward company is three years old!
I participated in the Ginger Dress re-release for the anniversary. It’s so not my usual style, but it’s beautiful! I am so into this dress.
A lot of times, I sew up a dress and immediately throw out the pattern because I don’t intend to make it again or if I do, I’ll just reprint.
But this one I carefully folded and put in my envelope system (blog post) because I am going to be coming back again and again!
The re-release of the Ginger Dress added extended sizes and made the “cardigan hack” from the Sewalong a part of the actual pattern. I can’t wait to try that – you’ll be seeing more!
This dress is everything, I have to be careful when I wear it to work because it steals my thunder for sure! I even gave a little model-face in my photos, this dress just does that to me.
The trim on the bottom is really fun to cut, they’re rectangles but pattern pieces are included (I can’t cut a straight line when the pattern just gives measurements!). I have been noticing handkerchief hems on everyone at work ever since making this dress. I didn’t realize what it was called and now I know what it is that I am hooked!
I used crushed velvet from JoAnns and a 1 yard remnant of burnout crushed velvet for the trim and neckband. You know how I love to challenge myself to use scraps!
I added about an inch of length in the bust in lieu of a full bust adjustment – otherwise there are no mods needed for me.
