Ellie and Mac Poppy Top

Ellie and Mac Poppy Top is another great scrap buster! I love working with Ellie and Mac because I feel like I am getting so much out of my fabric!

I used black double brushed poly and green window pane Hacci Knit called Boulder from Amelia Lane Designs. You might recognize I used the same exact combination in my pinspiration creation using the Ellie and Mac Going Home. I managed to get both projects out of a two yard cut of each fabric! It’s so satisfying to use up the very last bit of a piece of beloved fabric. I had to do a little bit of creative cutting and angle slightly from grainline, but I made it work!

I added my usual inch in the bust/just below the armsye. It works as a combined height adjustment and vertical-only full bust adjustment.

The back placket is really really easy. It’s just interfacing, ironed on, folded over and top stitched. To make it even easier, I used Kam Snaps instead of buttons. They’re a snap to put on. A while back I got a starter kit with pliers and now I buy a big variety pack so I always have lots of colors to choose from.

I had a lot of fun whipping this top up on Sunday night so I could wear it to work Monday… I ended up doing midweek laundry so I could wear it again on Friday. It’s really comfortable and cute without being too slouchy for work.

I’ve been making a lot of Ellie and Mac patterns lately. The 2XL fits me so well, I only adjust a tiny bit for height. The overlapping pages give me confidence that I assembled them correctly and leaves me room to do that tiny height adjustment! They’re almost always having a sale. Patterns release at a discount, on top of the sale price! So they’re usually $3.85 on the day I blog them. On Wednesdays, the patterns rotate through being on sale for $1 (Wacky Wednesday).
