Ruffled Jessie
Jessie Top/Dress by 5 Out Of 4 Patterns
Though I don’t think I’ll ever have too many Jessie dresses (I just made another and added it to my original post), when I saw these dots, I was looking for a few more frills.
Since the fit of the Jessie dress is perfect, I decided just to add the frills rather than try a new pattern!
I started by measuring the hemline. Then I doubled that number so that I would have a piece of fabric, the width double the front or back hemline of the dress so I have plenty of gathers. The height is how tall my ruffle will be, plus a hem allowance.
I decided I also wanted to add a little shoulder ruffle, so I measured around the top of my shoulder (I could make the ruffle go all the way around, but decided not to this time) and cut a rectangle for each shoulder. I hemmed the sides and then attached along with my sleeve.
After you gather the ruffles (shoulders and hemline) you’ll attach. Be careful! I accidentally caught my dress in my serger! I had to repair this hole with interfacing!
Finished! What do you think? I’m debating leaving it this length or bringing it up to about knee height.
