Twist Top

Ellie and Mac Twist It up

I blog for Amelia Lane Designs at AmeliaLaneDesigns.com/blog as well as for myself, here. Each time they release new fabric I put together a “round up” of all the inspiration photos from their Strike Squad. Over the last couple of rounds I have seen so many Ellie and Mac Twist It up Tops. SO MANY. On different people, different bodies, different fabrics and I have loved them all! I needed to know what the fuss was about!

I originally ordered only one yard of the Peoria liverpool from Amelia Lane Designs because I was going to make a pencil skirt. But then seeing yet another Twist It Up Top, I changed my mind and printed out the pattern.

I decided to try and see if I could do it with only one yard (some of the squad had mentioned they could, but they’re a bit smaller). I came close. I ended up a few inches short in width – so I cut what I could and marked where I left off. Then I cut a strip a bit wider than that out of the fabric I had remaining, which means it’s going the wrong direction and has minimal stretch down that strip, which is why I went a tiny bit wider.

It worked great except for the shoulders. I should have gone a bit wider in the shoulders, but I was focused on having enough waist room since I had already graded the pattern down a size, since I am a size smaller waist than bust or hip.

So I totally get why everyone is making this their go-to pattern! I think it turned out really cute. And it was really easy too!. The “twist” is quite simple to construct.

Liverpool worked really well for this too, dressing it up a bit!
