Coffee and Tea Cardigan by Annelaine Patterns
The Coffee and Tea is a 2 in 1 pattern. The Coffee is the more square looking cardigan with a straight bottom and the tea has a rounded bottom – I’ve heard it called a cocoon style.
This post will be isolated to the Coffee version in varying lengths, but both options come in the pattern, so you’d only have to buy it once.
Cropped Length
My first coffee cardigan was made sort of spur of the moment. I didn’t even get pictures of me wearing it!
This is a 5oo4 Virginia Dress that I needed to wear that afternoon but realized that I wanted something to cover my shoulders. I had one yard of brushed french terry from Elevated Fashion Fabrics, so I folded the fabric in half width-wise, laid the coffee pattern out (since the front is mirrored, you can just cut once – back on the fold, front near the selvages) and made as much cardigan as I could fit on one yard. It came out to the perfect cropped length. I used some scraps left to make the bands and sleeves. Since the bands are 1:1 and don’t need stretch, I cut them lengthwise instead of width-wise on the fabric to use up what I had left. It all came out perfectly and I added some pearl buttons to one side. They’re phony since there’s no button holes to put them through and the cardigan isn’t really designed to close, but I feel like it dresses them up. I Amazon’d them with next day delivery the night before when I realized I needed an outfit.
Once I saw how well my makeshift cropped version fit, I decided to take it more seriously and make a “real” one!
Pattern Length
This photo is not grainy, it was actively snowing when I took it! I am actually wearing my husband’s Sawyer shirt underneath because I needed a plain black shirt and his was handy. It’s rayon spandex from Sincerely Rylee
The coffee cardigan is made from Camden Hacci by Amelia Lane Designs. It’s super soft – I used it to make his real sawyer shirt and then I used the excess to make myself this coffee cardigan. This is the actual pattern length, no mods.
I am thankful that he is so patient to model for me, especially when the snow pauses for a moment and I make him run out and stare directly into the sun to grab this photo really quick! He’s wearing the Sawyer when it was released – here’s my blog on that project Blog-Sawyer)
Duster Length
I mostly like my cardigans extreme – either cropped or duster!
I wear my Carlisle that I made duster length a lot (blog for that mod) – I like the hood and the sleeve cuffs, but I really prefer it in heavier fabrics. Not sure why, just the way my brain sorts things.
I wanted a light sweater duster, so I added 8.5″ to the Coffee pattern.
Why 8.5″? Because I took a piece of printer paper and folded it like a vegan-burger, cut on that line and added those half sheets of paper in at the waist of the back and front pattern pieces.
I happened to have a nice big cut of this soft, lightweight marbled burgundy sweater knit from Sincerely Rylee. I don’t know if it was in a mystery box or if she tossed it in for me because I don’t remember ordering it so I don’t have details on it, but it’s soft and pretty!
Don’t forget to add 8.5″ to the bands too – they’re a 1:1 ratio.
PS, I used the slim sleeve line and slimmed them down a little more and this is the non-hooded version
I love how the length turned out! It’s right below the boot line, right where I wanted it. I’m wearing it over my Annelaine Charleston dress in black rayon spandex from Sincerely Rylee. It was one of many looks for this dress – see them all on my Charleston blog post.
Since I changed back and forth all in one day for these photos of the Charleston/Coffee, I kept it simple with this bar necklace from Amazon and some plain, flat black boots. (I’ll pin those amazon items below)
